Plants protected by the snow

Fall fertilization and mulching will prepare your plants to survive the long, cold winter months ahead. We recommend fertilizing your plants with Holly-tone and Healthy Start (natural organic blended fertilizers) to help your plants recover from summer stress, promote strong root growth, and better blossoms in the spring.

While snow cover can provide good winter protection for your plants, you can’t always count on it; mulching in November and December will add a protective layer of insulation to the roots. A layer of mulch will help moderate the soil temperature and protect your plants from winter stress. Late fall mulching also has the added benefit of making the garden look more tidy through the winter months. We’ll continue mulching until the first snow.
